The primary safety objective of the Department of Transportation (DOT) regarding substance abuse is to prevent alcohol and controlled substance abusers from performing transportation safety sensitive functions. To assist in the process, the role of the “substance abuse professional” (SAP) was established. A SAP is responsible for the evaluation, referral and treatment of employees identified as being positive for alcohol and/or controlled substances or who have refused to be tested. Our qualified SAPs provide the following services:
Evaluation, Referral & Follow Up
- Comprehensive clinical assessment to determine treatment needs
- Coordination of appropriate level of care
- Monitoring to determine if employee demonstrates successful compliance
- Written report to designated party with a return to duty follow up plan
- Consultation with the employer throughout the process
